The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure About Sizing Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification versus the original listing because of the remapping.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to check their listings and manually change the size when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Service Background
The service features exceeding 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
